Employment figures 2024

As part of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, the Port on the left bank of the Scheldt (Waaslandhaven) is one of the biggest drivers of the Flemish economy. However, in 2024, geopolitical challenges and uncertainties had an increasing impact on the daily functioning of our economy. For the first time, this impact was also visible in the employment figures for the Port on the left bank of the Scheldt (Waaslandhaven).

Direct employment fell sharply: there were 1,436 fewer full-time equivalents (FTEs) in employment compared to 2023. This brings direct employment in the Port on the left bank of the Scheldt (Waaslandhaven) back to the level of 2019. Indirect and total employment have also been affected. This is evident from the results of the survey conducted annually by Maatschappij Linkerscheldeoever (MLSO) among companies in the Port on the left bank of the Scheldt (Waaslandhaven).
